Conduct a training on SOGIE and human rights for 60 people

On 2^nd May, 2021 , the coalition for equality and gender brings together fifteen (15) participants , for a day training on human right advocacy and SOGI issues in Kambia District. The workshop took place at Moon Light Guest  hall main Road Kambia town northern province of Sierra Leone.

The objective of the workshop was to raise awareness among MSM, TRANS and GAY on SOGI human right issues, and for them to reach and educate their peers.

 The workshop was divided into two sessions: 

In the morning session, participants gained vast knowledge on background to the formation of the  United Nations and African human rights system and African commission on human and people’s rights : 

The facilitator highlighted the following as a key component to the presentation:

• The human right council [special procedure and the universal periodic review]
• Treaty Bodies
• Human right council
• Special procedure of the human right council
• Core international human right treaties

The second presentation was geared towards educating participants on human right presentation

The following were presented:

• Human rights instrument and the united nations systems
• Universal Declaration of Human RIGHTS
• International bill of right 
• Nine international human rights treaties
• Yogyakarta Principles
• State compliance 

The afternoon presentation dealt with the concept of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. [SOGI]

The facilitator noted that , everyone has a sexual orientation and gender identity [SOGI]. He informed participants that it is an inclusive term that applies to everyone, whether they identify as Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer two-sprit, Heterosexual or Cisgender.

He advised participants to be inclusive and create safe space for all Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity individuals as they were all born free and equal before the law.

He encouraged all to do the following to SOGI community:

• Speaking to SOGI community in a way that makes them feel they belong
• Not limiting a person potential based on their biological sex and how they understand of express their gender
• Welcoming everyone without discrimination, regardless of their r sexual orientation and fender identity

The facilitator emphasized that the Coalition and its partners want to achieve the following:

• SOGI inclusion is about zero discrimination
• Is about fighting exclusion
• Is about ending poverty

Animer une formation sur l’OSGIE et les droits humains pour 60 personnes

Le 2 mai 2021, la coalition pour l’égalité et le genre rassemble quinze (15) participants, pour une journée de formation sur le plaidoyer en faveur des droits humains et les questions OSIG dans le district de Kambia. L’atelier a eu lieu au Moon Light Guest Hall, route principale, ville de Kambia, province du nord de la Sierra Leone.
L’objectif de l’atelier était de sensibiliser les HSH, les TRANS et les GAY aux problèmes des droits de l’homme de l’OSIG, et pour eux d’atteindre et d’éduquer leurs pairs.

L’atelier était divisé en deux sessions :
Au cours de la session du matin, les participants ont acquis de vastes connaissances sur le contexte de la formation des Nations Unies et du système africain des droits de l’homme et de la commission africaine des droits de l’homme et des peuples :

L’animateur a souligné ce qui suit comme élément clé de la présentation:

• Le conseil des droits de l’homme [procédure spéciale et examen périodique universel]
• Organes de traités
• Conseil des droits de l’homme
• Procédure spéciale du conseil des droits de l’homme
• Principaux traités internationaux relatifs aux droits de l’homme

Le facilitateur a souligné que la Coalition et ses partenaires veulent atteindre les objectifs suivants :

• Instrument des droits de l’homme et systèmes des Nations Unies
• Déclaration universelle des droits de l’Homme
• Charte internationale des droits
• Neuf traités internationaux relatifs aux droits humains
• Principes de Yogyakarta
• Conformité de l’État

La présentation de l’après-midi portait sur le concept d’orientation sexuelle et d’identité de genre. [OSIG]
L’animateur a noté que , tout le monde a une orientation sexuelle et une identité de genre [OSIG]. Il a informé les participants qu’il s’agit d’un terme inclusif qui s’applique à tout le monde, qu’ils s’identifient comme lesbiennes, gays, bisexuels, transgenres, homosexuels bi-spiritueux, hétérosexuels ou cisgenres.
Il a conseillé aux participants d’être inclusifs et de créer un espace sûr pour tous les individus d’orientation sexuelle et d’identité de genre, car ils sont tous nés libres et égaux devant la loi.
